40 hours for 40 years

So it started on Saturday night.  I had booked the Excelsior Movie Theatre and husband thought we were just running late for Film Club.  We arrived.  He rushed in and missed the "Happy Birthday Jonathan" sign.  He also missed this one...

Or perhaps was mislead by the "35th".  Ha!  Not quite.  So he threw himself into the back row of the cinema and looked into Martyn's eyes.  A moment of bewilderment ensued.  Followed by the dawning that he actually knew everybody in the room.  He still did not suspect that this may be a 40th birthday party for him.  So we enjoyed the popcorn....

..and the pick and mix...

...and the choc ices...

The Lyons Maid
(Now, I'll not mention how I have become skilled in the art of subterfuge, but I'll just pass on a word of thanks to my accomplices assistants: Grif and Lynn who set up all the goodies and Mark and Diane who organised all the drinks.)

and the trailers for forthcoming attractions.  You can watch them here and here if you like.

It was really only after we had watched Miracle on 34th Street (original b&w naturally) that it sank in.  Happy Birthday Husband.

Then on Sunday we had a family lunch.  Josie and Bea were happy at a kids table, although Phoebe was just happy there were new toys to play with.

There was also a table for the adults...

... and the second birthday cake of the weekend.  Beatrice was determined that she would carry it in.

Which she did....

...very well...

Then it was off to the waterfront with Grif and Lynn to listen to Frankie, Dean and Sammy sing in Christmas.

Forty hours of celebrations for forty years.

The 2nd best birthday gift ;)
